The ClickType app
How the app uses your clipboard
ClickType reads the plain text on your clipboard only at the moment you click its menu bar icon. It types that text into the app you’re using and then discards it. It doesn’t keep a copy or a history, and it doesn’t watch the clipboard in the background. Non-text items such as images are ignored.
What the app stores
Only its own preferences, such as whether to run at login. They stay on your Mac.
What the app doesn’t do
- It doesn’t collect personal data, usage data or identifiers.
- It doesn’t include analytics, advertising or tracking of any kind.
- It doesn’t connect to the internet or to our servers.
- It doesn’t record, read or log what you type on your keyboard.
Accessibility permission
To type text into other apps, macOS requires you to allow ClickType under Accessibility in System Settings. The app uses this permission only to type your clipboard text when you click its icon. It doesn’t use it to read your screen, other apps’ content or your own typing. You can revoke the permission at any time in System Settings.
Downloads and source code
ClickType is free and open source, and you can check everything above in its source code. It’s downloaded from GitHub Releases, so GitHub processes your download request as described in the GitHub General Privacy Statement. We only see aggregate download counts, never who downloaded it. If you open an issue on GitHub, it’s public and handled by GitHub under the same statement.
This website
This website doesn’t use cookies, analytics or trackers, and its fonts are served from the same place as the site. It is hosted on GitHub Pages. When you visit, GitHub may process your IP address in server logs for security and to deliver the site, as described in the GitHub General Privacy Statement.
If you email us, we use your address and message only to reply, and we keep them only as long as needed to handle your request. The legal basis is our legitimate interest in answering you (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR).
Your rights
Under the GDPR you can ask to access, correct or delete personal data we hold about you, object to or restrict its processing, and request its portability. Write to [SUPPORT EMAIL]. You can also complain to the Spanish data protection authority, the Agencia Española de Protección de Datos.
Children
ClickType doesn’t collect data from anyone, including children.
